39. Did You Know: George Lucas was paid by Twentieth Century Fox to write the screenplay for Star Wars: A New Hope? He earned only $50,000 for writing the screenplay. Once the film was shot, Lucas invited his friends Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Brian DePalma to screen the final product. Scorsese and DePalma were certain the film was going to be a major flop. In the end, Lucas laughed all the way to the bank, after Star Wars grossed $100 million in three months. Three decades later, Lucas is a billionaire.
