The sound crew found the perfect brown bear at the San Diego Zoo and began recording his “talk.” They recorded him in all of his moods: happy and sad, hungry and full. According to Chewbacca actor Peter Meyhew, some of Chewbacca’s sounds were also that of a dog. However, the majority of Chewbacca’s lines are courtesy of a brown bear in Southern California.
