35. Did You Know: George Lucas had a paltry budget of $10 million for the first Star Wars film? By the time Star Wars disappeared from theaters, it had grossed more than $250 million. Fast forward to 1999 and the reappearance of Star Wars. Episode I: The Phantom Menace. The production budget for The Phantom Menace was a whopping $115 million, more than ten times the budget of the original Star Wars. The Phantom Menace also raked in more than $431 million in box office sales in the United States alone. Worldwide The Phantom Menace grossed more than $924 million dollars, almost a billion dollars!
64. Did You Know: A radar dish was the inspiration behind Boba Fett’s spaceship? According to Nilo Rodis-Jamero, “Johnston showed me some of the ideas he has for Boba Fett, and I remember asking myself what his spaceship would look like. I remember seeing a radar dish and stopping to sketch it very quickly to see if I could get something out of it. The original design I had was round, but when you looked at it from the side, it became elliptical. For some reason, when I drew it, George thought it was elliptical, so that's what it became. When we were building the ship at ILM, somebody looked at street lamps and pointed out that they looked like Boba's ship. So everyone began to think that was where I got the idea for the design.”
